Audition Only Shows

In addition to technique and production classes, HITS offer Audition Only Shows, the most notable of which is the annual HITS production at Miller Outdoor Theatre in the spring. Audition Only Shows are largely limited to MainStage and Rising Stars age levels, although younger students occasionally audition. It's important to note that these shows are cast by audition only and students can register for the show only if they are cast.

Throughout the process, all participants learn a great deal about what it takes to put on a full-scale show. Rehearsals and casting will be structured toward producing a stylish and professional performance for Houston audiences.

HITS celebrates our 30th anniversary production at miller outdoor theatre

Footloose Heights Ad Final page 001

When Ren and his mother move from Chicago to a small farming town, Ren is prepared for the inevitable adjustment period at his new high school. What he isn’t prepared for are the rigorous local edicts, including a ban on dancing instituted by the local preacher, determined to exercise the control over the town’s youth that he cannot command in his own home.

When the reverend’s rebellious daughter sets her sights on Ren, her roughneck boyfriend tries to sabotage Ren’s reputation, with many of the locals eager to believe the worst about the new kid. The heartfelt story that emerges is of a father longing for the son he lost and of a young man aching for the father who walked out on him.

To the rockin’ rhythm of its Oscar and Tony-nominated top 40 score and augmented with dynamic new songs for the stage musical, FOOTLOOSE celebrates the wisdom of listening to young people, guiding them with a warm heart and an open mind.

Students must be available to attend a five minute time slot for their Vocal Audition, to attend the Dance Audition, as well as callbacks as requested. If a student cannot attend callbacks, they must make arrangements upon scheduling their auditions.

Vocal Audition Requirements: Students must prepare 16 bars of a musical theatre song. Please have sheet music with you at the audition. An accompanist will be provided.

Dance Audition Requirements: Students should wear active wear and bring both jazz shoes and tap shoes. Female students who already own character shoes should bring those to audition as well.

Please note: You do not need to be currently registered in a HITS production class to audition for FOOTLOOSE; however, we encourage all students (especially those under 10th grade) to continue to take technique classes during Miller shows to broaden their stagecraft education.

HITS Theatre is committed to seeing any student who is interested in auditioning for our production of FOOTLOOSE. If a student is unable to attend any of the scheduled audition times, please contact us at 713.861.7408 or This email address is being protected from spambots.
