Vocal Coaching
We at HITS are happy to have two vocal coaches on our team – Jack Beetle and Laura Botkin. Jack will be heading up our vocal department, which will allow our students to partake in private lessons to better their singing abilities. Read on for information directly from Jack Beetle:
From Jack Beetle
I'm really excited to be coming on as head of voice at HITS. I recently completed my Masters of Music degree in operatic performance at the University of Houston's Moores School of Music. I received my Bachelors of Music degree with honors, in vocal performance with concentrated studies in orchestral conducting from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY. Before pursuing my Bachelors degree, I spent four years as a professional actor and singer in the Philadelphia, PA area, specializing in musical theatre and Shakespearean repertoire. I have been teaching voice for over 8 years and my students have gone on to major colleges around the United States including the University of Michigan, USC, NYU, Nebraska Wesleyan, Boston Conservatory and Westminster Choir College. I've also had students attain status in All-State Choirs in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, as well as All Eastern-High School Choir. I'm looking forward to working with young, up-and-coming performers and being a part of the HITS family.
A Note Regarding Vocal Technique
We believe in the power of a strong technical vocal and musical foundation. It is important to meet with students weekly, guiding them through a series of exercises, warm-ups and song literature to strengthen their young and maturing vocal folds and to help them find awareness in their bodies. We believe that through a proper understanding of their breath and the muscles that work to help their singing voice, they can achieve great success through discipline and inspiration. It is incredibly important to establish good, healthy habits with young singers and establish a love for the singing art form that can carry them through high school, college and for life.
