HITS
Theatre is
a
non-profit,
non-Equity,
501(c)(3)
arts and
education
organization
which
provides
theatre
training
for
children
ages 4 to
20. HITS
is housed
in a
theatre in
the heart
of the
historic
heights
area of
Houston.
Classes
and
performances
take place
in HITS’
theatre,
which has
seating
for 126.
HITS also
produces a
major
Broadway
musical at
Houston’s
Miller
Outdoor
Theatre in
Hermann
Park each
spring.
About
Us...
HITS
THEATRE
was
founded by
Carolyn
Franklin
in June
1980.
Incorporated
under the
name
HOUSTON
UPSTAIRS
THEATRE
SCHOOL as
a
non-profit
organization
under IRS
code 501
(c) (3),
HITS is a
theatre
training
facility
for
children
ages 6-22.
When, in
1984, the
school
moved into
its own
theatre in
the
Houston
Heights,
it ceased
being
“UPSTAIRS”
and became
“HITS”!
HITS has
two major
goals for
children
in the
arts:
EDUCATION
and
PERFORMANCE.
Today,
HITS is
one of the
leading
performing
arts
education
organizations
for young
people in
the
metropolitan
Houston
area and
is
dedicated
to
providing
school age
students
the
highest
quality
performing
arts
education
with a
focus on
training
in the
musical
theater
disciplines
of voice,
dance and
acting. In
addition,
HITS'
several
community
outreach
programs
provide
arts
education
opportunities
for
underserved
populations.
For over
twenty
five (25)
years,
HITS
unique
performance-based
programs
have
served
students
at all
skill
levels.
HITS
programs
currently
serve over
500
students
annually
and
include:

Performing
and
theater
arts
courses
for
children
and
young
adults
including
voice,
dance,
acting
and
related
theater
arts.

HITS
Theatre
Company
Traveling
Show
which
performs
short
revues
outside
the
theatre,
for
charitable,
business
and
civic
events.

Outreach
programs/partnerships
with
school,
community
and
social
service
organizations.
- A
multi-session
Musical
Theater
Summer
Camp.
-
Needs-based
scholarship
and
financial
aid
for
all
programs.
-
An
annual
major
Broadway
production
at
Houston's
Miller
Outdoor
Theatre.
